Congrats! You are now allowed to come to Hainan Province to do different things for 30 days! Are you ready to explore this beautiful tropical island in China?

China has significantly broadened its visa-free access policy for Hainan Island, moving beyond purely tourism-focused visits to include a wider array of travel purposes. This expansion is part of China’s ambitious plan to transform Hainan into a major free-trade port, aiming to attract more international visitors and investors by easing travel restrictions.

Under the new policy, passport holders from 59 countries are now permitted to enter Hainan without a visa for up to 30 days. These visits can be for various reasons, including business, family visits, medical treatment, exhibitions, and sporting events, alongside tourism. This move is seen as a step towards deepening the reform and opening up of Hainan Province, contributing to its development as a free-trade port with distinctive Chinese characteristics.

The visa-free policy, which originally took effect in 2018 but was suspended due to the pandemic, has been resumed. It underscores Hainan’s readiness to welcome international visitors again, emphasizing the island’s potential as a hub for economic, trade, and cultural exchanges with the 59 eligible countries. The policy aims to enhance Hainan’s international accessibility and attract global businesses, projects, and talent to its free trade port. The initiative is expected to boost inbound tourism, civil aviation, and Hainan’s position as an international tourism destination.

This liberalization is part of a broader strategy to make Hainan a world-leading free-trade port by the end of next year, featuring an independent customs regime and offering incentives like reduced taxes and relaxed visa regulations to attract investors and businesses. The ultimate goal is to position Hainan on par with established international free-trade hubs such as Hong Kong and Singapore, leveraging its strategic location and resources to drive economic growth and internationalization.

  1. I don’t know when I can visit China but I am planning for it, my intention is to visit my eldest brother’s birthplace which was at Quanzhou formerly named ChuanChow, and Mom’s birthplace at Xiamen formerly named Amoy. I want to trace my ancestors from my mom’s side and my papa’s side of the family. Papa’s mom was from China I don’t have any idea what the name of the city has been named where Grandma came from. It’s Sy/Go ( mom’s dad and mom) and Yao/Lao ( papa’s dad and mom) ancestors I am after.
