China's Landmark Visa Policy Expansion: A New Era for Global Travelers
In a significant move to enhance international connectivity, China has announced a major expansion of its visa-free policy, marking the most substantial change since 2022. Effective November 30, 2024, citizens from nine additional countries will enjoy visa-free entry into China, with the policy set to continue until December 31, 2025.
New Additions to the Visa-Free List
The countries newly granted visa-free access are:
- Bulgaria
- Romania
- Croatia
- Montenegro
- North Macedonia
- Malta
- Estonia
- Latvia
- Japan
Enhanced Visa-Free Stay and Travel Purposes
In addition to welcoming new countries, China has extended the visa-free stay period for citizens of all eligible countries from 15 days to 30 days. The scope of permissible activities under the visa-free policy has also been broadened to include:
- Business
- Tourism
- Family and friend visits
- Exchange programs
- Transit (up to 30 days)
These changes aim to provide greater flexibility and convenience for international visitors.
Visa-Free Policy Expansion Since 2022
Since 2022, China has progressively expanded its visa-free policy to include a total of 38 countries. Notable milestones in this expansion include:
December 2023: China initiated a trial visa-free policy for citizens of Malaysia, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the Netherlands.
November 2024: The policy was further extended to include Slovakia, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Iceland, Andorra, Monaco, Liechtenstein, and South Korea.
November 2024: The latest expansion adds Bulgaria, Romania, Croatia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Malta, Estonia, Latvia, and Japan to the list.

China’s Expanded Visa-Free Policy Now Covers 38 Countrie
As of November 30, 2024, China has expanded its visa-free policy to include citizens from 38 countries, allowing them to enter China without a visa for stays of up to 30 days. This policy is effective until December 31, 2025. The 38 countries eligible for visa-free entry are:
