WOW, we’re already two weeks into 2024! Everyone has a new year resolution, but not everyone has a plan. @chinainsider just hit 660k followers this week, thanks everyone! We’ve grown from just 5 followers in 2015 to what we are today. Couldn’t have done it without solid planning every year.
Annual goal planning is super important to me. Since 2022, I’ve been using Notion for my planning, including yearly goals. And guess what? My goal completion rate has been more successful than in any previous year.
I’m not saying I achieved all my goals, but this method of planning certainly helped me in many ways. Let me share with you, step by step, how I do it. For those impatient ones you can already download my template for free:
Why is yearly goal planning so important?
⭐Clarity and Focus: Defining yearly goals helps in establishing a clear direction for the year. It allows you to focus on what’s most important and align your daily actions with your long-term objectives.
⭐Manageable Steps: Breaking down annual goals into smaller, quarterly and daily tasks makes them more manageable. It’s easier to make progress when you’re working towards smaller milestones rather than a distant, larger goal.
⭐Motivation and Momentum: Achieving smaller milestones provides a sense of accomplishment and keeps you motivated. Consistent progress, even in small steps, builds momentum towards reaching the larger goal.
⭐Tracking and Adjustments: By reviewing goals quarterly and daily, you can track your progress and make necessary adjustments. This helps in staying on course and adapting to any
Step 1: Create a duplicate
Let’s get started! The first thing to do after opening my template is to click ‘Duplicate’. That way, you’ll save a local version that’s all yours. No one else can touch or peep, unless you let them 😉
Step 2: Jot down all your goals for 2024
In the first section, ‘2024 Goals’, you’ll find all my goals for the year, categorized as ‘Not started’, ‘In progress’, and ‘Done’. You can drag the goals around. Feel free to add your own goals and rearrange them as you like.
Step 3: Assign the goals to each quarter
Remember, it’s important to break down our goals into manageable steps! So, here’s the first breakdown: quarterly goals. This helps us understand exactly what we’re going to do in each 3-month period. Plus, it allows us to look back and review our progress:
Step 4: Break down your quarterly goals into everyday actions
What’s the key to achieving our quarterly goals? It’s our day-to-day work! Changing our habits is essential if we want to change our lives in the new year. That’s why we have a day-to-day habit tracker to keep ourselves accountable. I haven’t always stuck to my new habits, but at least it helps me understand how I’m doing and what I need to work on:
