How Many Days Do You Need in Harbin?

Three full days. That covers the ice park, Sun Island's snow sculptures and the old city without rushing, and it is the number that fits how far apart the sites sit and how early the light goes in winter. Two days works if the ice park is the only reason you came. Four or five if you want to ski.

How the three days split

Day one: the old city. Central Street, St Sophia Cathedral, and Zhaolin Park in the evening when the ice lanterns come on — the park is 450 metres from Central Street. Keep this day light; you are also acclimatising to −20°C.

Day two: Sun Island, then Ice and Snow World. Both sit on Metro Line 2, which stops at Sun Island and at Ice and Snow World. Do the snow sculptures in daylight, where the carving reads properly, then reach the ice park by mid-afternoon. The 2026–27 site is 1.25 million square metres with more than 1,000 ice and snow structures, and you want four to five hours in it.

Day three: the river, the Siberian tiger park, or a slow day of northeast cooking. Nothing here needs booking far ahead.

Tickets to Ice and Snow World were 328 RMB standard and 240 RMB concession in the 2025–26 season; the 2026–27 prices were not published when this was checked. Buy through the official WeChat mini-program or an international platform a few days ahead — entry is checked against your passport.

Add a day for skiing

Yabuli is the usual add-on. High-speed trains from Harbin reach Yabuli West in as little as 1 hour 8 minutes, with second class around 76–86 RMB. Skiing there consumes a whole day, so it costs a night, not an afternoon.

When to come

The park is due to open around the end of December 2026 and run to late February, weather permitting. February is a soft deadline: last season it closed on 21 February 2026 as the ice began to go. The trade-off is crowds — the park recorded more than 120,000 visitors in a single day in February 2026.

Where to stay

Two bases make sense. Songbei, on the north bank, is a five-minute subway ride from Ice and Snow World and 15 minutes from Zhongyang Street, measured from Shimao Street station on Line 2. Daoli, around Central Street, puts the old streets and restaurants on your doorstep but adds a commute every evening.

Whichever you pick, the park is 12 km and 25 minutes from Harbin Railway Station, and 39 km and 50 minutes from Taiping airport.

Songbei rooms sell out first around opening week, so book a refundable rate early — you can compare the main booking sites before committing.
