How many days in Fuzhou? Two is enough, three is better
Two full days covers Fuzhou's core. Add a third only if you want Pingtan island or Drum Mountain, and do not try to see the city in one day — you would get Three Lanes and Seven Alleys and nothing else.
| Days | What it covers | The trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Three Lanes and Seven Alleys plus the Lin Zexu Memorial Hall | Misses the museums and the river; rushed if you arrive after midday |
| 2 | Adds Fujian Museum, West Lake Park and Yantai Mountain | The sensible minimum for a first visit |
| 3 | Adds Pingtan island or Drum Mountain as a day trip | Needs a train booked ahead for Pingtan |
Day one: the old city
Three Lanes and Seven Alleys is Fuzhou's only 5A-rated attraction, and the public lanes are free. Ticketed houses open 08:30–17:00, though most close on Mondays. Fujian's tourism board recommends three hours; a joint ticket costs CNY 70 and is valid for two days, while single entries run CNY 15 for Yan Fu's former residence, CNY 20 for Xiao Huang Lou and CNY 20 for the Waterside Stage. With two days in the city, buy one or two single tickets rather than the joint pass.
Take metro lines 1 or 4 to Dongjiekou station, exit C — the north entrance is a short walk away. The Lin Zexu Memorial Hall nearby is free.
Day two: museums and the river
Fujian Museum is about 1.5 km from the Sanfang Qixiang visitor centre, roughly 20 minutes on foot. Yantai Mountain is a separate cluster about 5.5 km away, so take a taxi or metro instead of walking it. Both pair well with an evening on the Min River.
Day three: get out of town
Pingtan is the easiest add-on. Trains from Fuzhou South reach Pingtan in about 28 minutes at the fastest, with roughly 39 departures a day and second-class seats from around CNY 34. Drum Mountain sits about 10 km from the centre if you would rather stay close.
Arriving and where to sleep
The Binhai Express line links Fuzhou Railway Station to Changle International Airport in 30 minutes on the direct service, CNY 17, running 06:00–22:30. Base yourself around Dongjiekou for the lanes, food and metro interchange.
Rooms near the old city fill early in holiday weeks, so book ahead:
