Huangshan airport to the city centre: ¥1 bus or ¥20 taxi
Huangshan Tunxi airport (TXN) is about 7 km west of downtown Tunxi, so the transfer is short: a taxi to the old street takes 15–20 minutes and costs ¥15–20, and city buses 18 and 19 cover the same ground for ¥1.
Two things that catch people out
Downtown Tunxi and Huangshan scenic area are not the same place. The old street is a 15-minute ride; Tangkou, the south gate where the mountain buses and cable cars start, is an hour and a half away. And nothing runs from the airport to the mountain directly — you connect through the city.
To downtown, step by step
- Taxi from the rank. Cars wait on the ground floor of the terminal. The reference fare board at the airport lists ¥20 to the old street area (8 km) and ¥26 to the city government (11 km).
- Bus 18 or 19. ¥1 flat, no change needed if you have an Alipay or WeChat QR code. Bus 18 runs into town via 一马路 and 二马路, the old street stops; bus 19 ends at the bus station and tourist dispatch centre. Both run 07:00–17:30 every 20 minutes, from a stop signposted 机场 just outside the terminal.
- Late landing. An airport shuttle went into trial service on 30 June 2023 at ¥5 a head, leaving the terminal at 20:00, 21:15 and 22:25 via Laojie Erma Road and the Huangshan International Hotel. Confirm at the information desk that it still runs; if not, it's a taxi.
- Didi works normally and needs no Chinese.
Straight to the mountain
Take a taxi to the bus station on Qiyun Avenue (about ¥20, 15 minutes), then a Tangkou bus. They start around 06:30 and the last one leaves mid-afternoon, so a late flight means a night in Tunxi. A taxi all the way to Tangkou takes about 1.5 hours and costs around ¥150.
