North Bund Night Walk: 2km from White Magnolia Square to Gongping Road Ferry
A roughly 2km night walk along the North Bund (北外滩) riverside, starting at the international passenger terminal and ending at Gongping Road Ferry Pier, best done after dark when the river breeze replaces the daytime heat.
The draw is the view: the Bund, the Oriental Pearl Tower and the Lujiazui skyline all in one frame, with the Huangpu River running the whole length of the route. It is quiet compared with the Bund itself — no shoulder-to-shoulder crowds, no jostling for the railing — and the riverfront is open enough that you can stop anywhere for a photo.
If you are staying the night on this side of the river, it is worth picking a place within walking distance of the start. compare all before you commit.
Book hotels, flights & trains across China — all in one place
- White Magnolia Square (白玉兰广场) — the first stop after the terminal, a landmark tower and plaza that marks the beginning of the riverside stretch.
- The Stage Observation Deck (The Stage观景台) — a viewing platform on the route, positioned for the skyline across the water.
- Playground X — a stop along the promenade, useful as a breather between the viewpoints.
- North Bund Mini Egg (北外滩小巨蛋) — the nickname locals use for the egg-shaped structure on this stretch; it is one of the recognisable markers of the walk.
- World Reception Hall (世界会客厅) — the riverside venue near the end of the route, close to where the walk turns toward the ferry.
- Gongping Road Ferry Pier (公平路渡口) — the endpoint, roughly 2km from the start.
The pace matters more than the list. Walking it end to end without stopping takes little time; the point is to slow down, shoot photos and let the river air do the work. Go in the evening, when the lights are on and the promenade is at its coolest.
Total distance: about 2km.
