Where to stay in Fuzhou: five areas that work

Book in Gulou district, within walking distance of Dongjiekou or Nanmendou metro station. From there Three Lanes and Seven Alleys (Sanfang Qixiang) is a walk rather than a commute, the Min River is two stops south, and you rarely need a taxi for the things that justify the trip.

Dongjiekou: best for a first visit

Dongjiekou station is where Line 1 and Line 4 cross, at Bayiqi North Road and Yangqiao East Road. Sanfang Qixiang sits 480 metres southwest of it, and Exit C puts you about 400 metres from the north entrance. Walking the lanes costs nothing; the former residences inside charge small tickets, around ¥5–20 each. Atour's Sanfang Qixiang branch is on North Bayiqi Road, a three-minute walk from the lanes.

Nanmendou: best for getting around

Nanmendou is the Line 1–Line 2 interchange, which makes it the most useful base if you plan a day on Gushan or a trip out to Guling. Shangri-La Fuzhou sits above Wuyi Square with Wushan and Yushan in view and scores 8.5 from guests on Booking. Yushan and the Lin Zexu Memorial are walkable from the station.

Shangxiahang and Yantai Mountain: best for atmosphere

Shangxiahang, the old merchant quarter in Taijiang, is served by Dadao station on Line 1 — Exit C, then about eight minutes on foot. Courtyard guesthouses converted from Min-style houses are the draw, and the Minjiang cruise wharf is close by. Across the river, Yantai Mountain's treaty-port streets are a ten-minute walk from Shangteng station, Exit B. Both are quieter than Gulou.

If you arrive late or leave early

Fuzhou Railway Station is on Line 1, three stops and about ¥2 from Dongjiekou, roughly eight minutes. Atour's Railway Station branch is a two-minute walk from the concourse. Fuzhou South, in Cangshan, is about 30 minutes and ¥5 from Dongjiekou on Line 1 — convenient for trains, not somewhere to base yourself.

The Binhai Express (F1) line, which opened in September 2025, runs from Fuzhou Railway Station to Changle Airport: a direct express covers it in about 30 minutes, a limited-stop train in roughly 38, with local trains at least every 7 minutes 30 seconds between 06:00 and 22:30. Dongjiekou to the airport station costs ¥17. From Exit B at the airport station, a covered walkway reaches Terminal 1 Gate 12 in a minute or two. Book out there only for a pre-dawn departure.

Before you book

Rates in Fuzhou swing widely by date, and the same room can differ between platforms, so check two or three before you commit — compare the main booking sites side by side.
