Kaifeng has no airport: getting in from Zhengzhou Xinzheng
Kaifeng has no commercial airport. You land at Zhengzhou Xinzheng International (CGO), roughly 70 km to the west, and the fastest way into the city is the intercity C-train from the station underneath the terminal — ¥43 to Kaifeng station, a little under an hour.
| Option | Cost | Journey | Drops you |
|---|---|---|---|
| Intercity C-train | ¥39 to Songchenglu, ¥43 to Kaifeng station | 56 min to 1 h 10 | Songchenglu, then Kaifeng station |
| Airport shuttle bus | about ¥40 | about 1 h 30 | Jinming area, west Kaifeng |
| Taxi | metered, no published fare | about 1 h | Your hotel |
Getting the intercity train
- Clear arrivals and follow the signs down to level B2. The railway station sits in the basement of Terminal 2, five or six minutes on foot from the baggage hall.
- Pick your stop. Songchenglu comes first, on the western side of Kaifeng; Kaifeng station is the terminus. Neither is Kaifeng North — the airport line does not serve it, and that is the usual mistake.
Fares are ¥43 second class to Kaifeng station and ¥39 to Songchenglu, sold at the ticket machines, at the window and on the 12306 app using the passport you booked your flight with. More than a dozen departures a day are listed from the airport station, spread from morning until around 21:00, so you rarely wait long — but the booking is worth doing in advance if you land late.

Bus and taxi
The airport shuttle leaves from the coach station at the airport for Kaifeng, about ¥40 for a journey of roughly 1 h 30, and sets down in the Jinming area on the west side. Departures are few and the published timetables disagree with each other, so confirm at the counter before you commit. A taxi covers the 70 km in about an hour and is the only sensible option if you land after the last train; no fixed fare is published, so check the meter is running.
If your hotel is in the north of Kaifeng, there is a second rail route: take a C-train the short hop to Zhengzhou East (¥14, about 20 minutes) and change there for a G-train to Kaifeng North.
