THE DRAMA Hotel: Shanghai's Immersive Theatre Experience
THE DRAMA Hotel is Shanghai's only Shakespeare-themed boutique hotel, where various details associated with the drama are also very lovely. Located next to the famous Sleep No More immersive theatre, this 26-room hotel turns your stay into an interactive theatrical experience.
What to Expect
Upon arrival, you'll be handed a mask to wear during check-in – staff members are actors who guide you to your room through cryptic clues. The hotel features four themed floors based on Shakespeare plays: Venice, Twelfth Night, As You Like It, and Midsummer Night's Dream. The suites themselves are smallish in size and excessively dark to the point that I was continually concerned that I would lose something in its predominately shadowy atmosphere, but this moody lighting is intentional, creating an atmospheric stay perfect for couples or theatre enthusiasts.
All rooms include complimentary mini bar, coffee capsules, and drinks – a rare find in Shanghai hotels. The breakfast was delivered to the room by a handsome man in a tuxedo. It was exquisite and delicious, available until 11am with room service only.
Location and Transport
The Drama Hotel Shanghai is located at 1013 Beijing West Road, Jing'an District, in the South Building of Shangyangu. The closest major public transportation, West Nanjing Road Metro Station, is only 600m away – roughly a 7-minute walk. Nearby attractions to The Drama Hotel include Shanghai · Sleep No More, just 100 ft from your search (straight-line distance) away.
Practical Details
Check-in time is from 14:00, and check-out time is 11:30-12:00 at The Drama Hotel Shanghai. Room rates typically range from CNY 1,293 upward, though prices vary by season and availability. The hotel is particularly popular with Sleep No More attendees, so booking well in advance is recommended, especially for weekend stays.
The hotel caters primarily to couples and theatre lovers seeking a unique Shanghai experience. After watching sleep no more, the check-in experience was even more interesting, making it an ideal choice for combining accommodation with Shanghai's most acclaimed immersive theatre experience.
